Biography
Edmon Begoli leads the AIS R&D section and is a distinguished member of the ORNL research staff. He specializes in the research, design, and development of resilient, secure, and scalable analytic architectures. Additionally, he has been leading national scale programs focused on the predictive modeling problems related to security, fraud prevention, veteran suicide prevention (collaboration with PERC/REACH VET), precision, and personalized medicine (MVP CHAMPION).
During his tenure at ORNL, Begoli led the original Knowledge Discovery Infrastructure (KDI) and the Citadel efforts, the first DoE platforms for computing on protected data, including leadership-class systems. Begoli currently leads ORNL's research efforts in secure, intelligent computing, and he co-leads the ORNL's multi-year LDRD initiative, with Ed Meyer, in "Emerging and Cyber Defense Technologies".
Begoli is a IEEE Computer Society distinguished contributor, ACM senior member of ACM and the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) committer. In 2022, Edmon was selected as a Google Research Innovator for his academic research in robust streaming and language processing architectures. Edmon holds undergraduate, graduate (University of Colorado-Boulder), and doctoral degrees (University of Tennessee) in Computer Science.
After his PhD, Begoli was a visiting scholar with the UC Berkeley EECS department, where he is currently an associated researcher with the SKY Computing lab. In addition, he regularly teaches graduate-level classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
