Biography
Chao Tian received a BE degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2000 and the MS and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY in 2003 and 2005, respectively.
Tian was a postdoctoral researcher at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) from 2005 to 2007, and then a researcher at AT&T Labs–Research (Shannon Labs) in New Jersey from 2007 to 2014. He was also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University between 2009 and 2013, and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters between 2012 and 2014. He joined the EECS department at UT as an associate professor in 2014.
His research interests include data storage systems, information theory, data communication and networks, joint source-channel coding, as well as image/video coding and processing.
Tian received the Liu Memorial Award at Cornell University in 2004, and the AT&T Key Contributor Award multiple times while he was with AT&T Labs-Research.
