Biography
Tianci Liu joins the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as an assistant professor in Fall 2026. He received his PhD in electrical and computer engineering at Purdue University. He received his MS from the University of Michigan and his BS from Xiamen University, both in statistics.
Liu’s research focuses on knowledge-centric AI. He develops efficient, reliable, and adaptive AI systems that acquire and integrate knowledge to better understand the world, human needs, and societal contexts with minimal supervision. His work spans large language model knowledge editing, retrieval-augmented generation, alignment, and personalization. He also works on trustworthy AI/ML.
Liu has authored nearly 30 papers in leading journals and conferences, including ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, ACL, EMNLP, ECCV, KDD, AAAI, UAI, and SenSys. His research has received an AAAI Distinguished Paper Award, and a SenSys Best Paper Award.
