Graduate Admissions

Ahmedullah Aziz and graduate students working in the NorDIC Lab

Application Requirements

Students are expected to hold a BS degree in their major or a closely related field of study. Those who do not will be asked to take select undergraduate courses prior to admission. These courses must be taken in a manner that generates a transcript with letter grades.

We do not require the GRE for any of our degree programs. International students may need to submit TOEFL/IELTS results. Questions and exemption requests should be sent to the Graduate School.

We will not request an exception for GPA and/or TOEFL/IELTS scores that do not meet UT minimum requirements.

We require three academic or professional references (please, no letters from family or friends). We also require a personal statement. For MS students, a brief get-to-know-you paragraph will suffice. For PhD students, it should elaborate on background and research interests.

MS applicants need not establish an advisor prior to admission but PhD applicants must do so.

We offer GTA and GRA positions. GTA positions are handled by a committee. Admitted students can self-nominate. GRA positions are handled by the faculty. Reach out to those who work in your area of interest. Both positions are competitive.

We follow the Graduate School deadlines and do not provide admission fee waivers.

We aim to process completed MS applications in 3–4 weeks. PhD applications are typically processed by April 15 for fall and October 15 for spring.

See degree links on the Graduate Programs page for academic admissions requirements.
