A team of students from the Tickle College of Engineering has taken on a project proposed by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and coached by EECS principal investigator Fred Martin. These students set out to develop a thermal visioning system that required less maintenance and cost less to implement, yet was reliable and refined enough to safely serve specific roles that had little-to-no margin for error.

EECS Dongarra Professor Michela Taufer is part of a national team of researchers working to build the critical technology needed to sew-up the national computational infrastructure. They have just been awarded $5.6M from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for their efforts.

CURENT director and CTI Professor Kevin Tomsovic has been chosen to be a Chancellor’s Professor, one of the highest faculty honors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He joins a select group of 18 other faculty members out of the 1,665 full-time faculty positions at UT who are Chancellor’s Professors.

Dongarra Professor Michela Taufer and EECS Computer Science graduate student Nigel Tan have co-authored a paper on improvements to computer memory that enable more complex computer simulations of plasma, and for their efforts they have been awarded a Best Track Paper Award at the 2021 International Conference on Computational Science.
