Biography
Kai Sun is a professor of electrical engineering and computer science, and also a member of the Center for Ultra-Wide-Area-Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT) research group. Before coming to UT, Sun was a Project Manager with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Palo Alto, California from 2007-2012 for the R&D programs in Grid Operations and Planning and Renewable Integration. Earlier, he worked as a research associate at Arizona State University in Tempe and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. His current research activities focus on understanding, preventing and mitigating cascading failures in power grids, wide-area measurements based power system analysis and control, and application of artificial intelligence in power systems
