The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Activity Group on Life Sciences has awarded Assistant Professor Dan Wilson the Early Career Prize for his outstanding work on coupled oscillators and other mathematical applications to Life Sciences.

A recent paper on a novel design for a cryogenic memory array by EECS Assistant Professor Ahmedullah Aziz’s research group has been named an “Editor’s Pick” by the journal Applied Physics Letters.

Michela Taufer, ACM Distinguished Scientist and Dongarra Professor in High Performance Computing, was selected in December to receive a 2021 IBM Faculty Award. The award recognizes the research of Taufer’s group, the Global Computing Laboratory (GCLab), which focuses on various aspects of High Performance Computing (HPC) and its application to the sciences.

ADVANCE and Associate Professor of electrical engineering Nicole McFarlane has been named the first recipient of the Science Alliance’s Program for Advancing Collaborative Teams (PACT) Award, for her research into hybrid biomicroelectronic systems.

A team of students from the Tickle College of Engineering has taken on a project proposed by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and coached by EECS principal investigator Fred Martin. These students set out to develop a thermal visioning system that required less maintenance and cost less to implement, yet was reliable and refined enough to safely serve specific roles that had little-to-no margin for error.

Assistant Professor Ahmedullah Aziz received the ACM SIGDA Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award for 2021 at the Design Automation Conference in November 2021.

A team including UT’s Dongarra Professor Michela Taufer and researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have received a prestigious R&D 100 award for Flux, their proposed solution to improving the performance capabilities for high performance computers.

A team led by UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Governor’s Chair for Power Grids Yilu Liu has been recognized by R&D 100 as a 2021 winner for its work on a project called “GridDamper.”

CURENT director and CTI Professor Kevin Tomsovic has been chosen to be a Chancellor’s Professor, one of the highest faculty honors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
